Since the 1970s, Finland has used five-digit numeric postal codes. The first two digits indicate the broader municipal area of the address, while the remaining three digits specify a more localized region within that area. Typically, the numeric code is accompanied by the written name of the smaller locality.
Large companies that receive significant volumes of mail may be assigned their own unique postal codes, also composed of five digits and the company’s name.
A special code, 99999, is designated for the home of Finland’s Joulupukki (Santa Claus), located in Korvatunturi.
