Track your DHL package

Enter a DHL tracking number to continue to the official DHL tracking system.

Examples: 1234567890, JJD0099999999 or GM99999999999

DHL tracking lets senders and recipients check the latest available shipment scan, route progress and delivery status. DHL operates several business divisions, so tracking-number length and format depend on whether the shipment travels through DHL Express, DHL eCommerce, DHL Parcel, DHL Freight or DHL Global Forwarding.

This PostIndex guide helps you recognise common DHL number formats, understand frequent tracking statuses and decide what to do when a shipment has not updated. The tracking form above transfers the entered number to DHL’s official tracking page; PostIndex does not transport or handle parcels.

How to track a DHL package

  1. Find the tracking number in the shipping confirmation, order page, receipt or message from the sender.
  2. Copy the complete number, including any letters at the beginning or end.
  3. Enter it in the DHL tracking box above and select Track DHL.
  4. Review the most recent event, location and any available delivery estimate.

DHL tracking number formats

A DHL tracking ID can contain numbers only or a combination of letters and numbers. These examples help identify the correct DHL division, but the shipping label and the sender’s confirmation remain the best sources.

Where can I find my DHL tracking number?

The sender or online store normally provides the tracking ID. Check the dispatch email, order details, invoice, receipt or shipping notification. A DHL Express waybill number may also appear below a barcode on the shipping label. If no number was supplied, contact the sender or retailer because DHL may not be able to locate a consumer shipment without the relevant identifier.

DHL tracking statuses explained

Shipment information received
The sender created a label, but DHL may not yet have physically received the parcel.
Processed at facility
The shipment was scanned and processed at a DHL service point or sorting facility.
Departed facility
The parcel left the named DHL location and is travelling to another hub or destination.
In transit
The shipment is moving through the delivery network. Long-distance legs may have no intermediate public scans.
Customs clearance
The parcel is undergoing an import or export customs procedure. Documents, duties or inspection may affect timing.
With delivery courier
The parcel is assigned to a courier for the final delivery route.
Delivery attempted
A courier tried to deliver the shipment but could not complete delivery.
Delivered
DHL recorded the shipment as delivered to the recipient, an authorised person or an approved delivery location.

When will DHL tracking information appear?

Tracking events commonly appear after the shipment reaches a DHL facility. DHL advises that the first event can take approximately 24–48 hours after the tracking ID is issued. A newly created label therefore does not always mean that the parcel is already moving.

Why is my DHL tracking not updating?

A gap between scans does not automatically mean a parcel is lost. The shipment may be travelling between hubs, waiting for a scheduled departure, passing through customs or moving with a delivery partner that sends data less frequently. Weekends, severe weather, peak-season volumes and customs reviews can also delay the next event.

  • Check that every letter and digit was entered correctly.
  • Allow up to 48 hours after receiving a new number.
  • Confirm which DHL division is handling the shipment.
  • Contact the sender if the number remains unrecognised or the expected delivery date passes.

DHL international tracking

International shipments may be scanned by DHL in the origin country and later transferred to a destination-country postal or delivery partner. The DHL history may display the partner’s identifier or a handover event. Customs processing can create a longer pause, especially when authorities request an invoice, proof of value or payment of import charges.

DHL delivery times

Delivery time depends on the service selected by the sender, origin and destination, customs procedures and local operating conditions. Express services are generally prioritised, while economy and eCommerce products may take longer and may use partner networks for final delivery. Use the estimate shown in the live DHL result rather than treating a general transit range as a guarantee.

DHL tracking FAQ

Can I track a DHL parcel without a tracking number?

Usually you need a tracking ID or another valid shipment reference. Ask the sender or online store if the number is missing.

Why does DHL say the tracking number is not found?

The label may be new, the number may contain an error, or it may belong to a different DHL business division. Recheck the format and try again after the first carrier scan.

Does “shipment information received” mean DHL has my parcel?

Not necessarily. It often means the sender transmitted shipment data and created a label. A later physical scan normally confirms that DHL received the parcel.

What should I do if DHL shows delivered but I cannot find the parcel?

Check the delivery details, safe places, reception area and household members. If it is still missing, contact the sender or the relevant DHL customer-service division promptly.
